On to San Francisco

Next morning (Friday 10) we continued up the coast, stopped for a while at Santa Cruz, wandered around the huge amusement park on the boardwalk, did not open until 11am so was very quiet, be a fun family day I imagine, then out along the jetty because Coz heard seals, they were just hanging out having noisy squabbles on the pontoons.

We detoured off the highway to have lunch at Pescadero, Lolli was impressed with the size of the roast beef roll.

Into San Francisco, heaps of traffic. We drove over the Golden Gate bridge an Coz said I would get a surprise when we reached the other side, because she had the first time, and so right was she, we cross the Harbour Bridge and on the other side is more of Sydney city, but on the other side of the Golden Gate there is -well - very little, apparently there is a town further on but just on the other side there are mainly bare hills and a great viewing point. Stopped and admired the view, then Coz spotted a tiny red plane doing acrobatics over the city, then there were planes everywhere, it was Fleet Week and we were seeing a Team Oracle biplane, the Navy's Blue Angels and a Canadian aerobatic team. On the way back over the bridge they scared the heck out of Coz and all the other traffic I am sure, by flying very low overhead.

Arriving in San Francisco.

Going over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Views from the Marin County side, the harbour is beautiful.

A plane and a beautiful blue sky, we never saw a cloud the whole trip, great for tourists, not so for water supply.

We then checked into our motel, the Greenwich in Steiner Street and soon it was time to go to the wharf to catch the ferry for the night tour of Alcatraz, and what an experience that was.

Some educational reading in the cells
Coz gets her cumuppence

We then wandered along the wharf and had a very late dinner, long but great day, again.

  1. Hi there Zann
knew I should have gone with you or t'other Sue, who btw is sending no pics at all and who does not know how to blog. Will have to show her your blog and give her lessons so that she knows what I expect from a world traveller next time she goes. She has sent her mum Jean some sms and a couple emails and I have 1 postcard of Santorini & 1 of Pompeii. Not up to your high standard.
love Sue the library stuck here in sunny Portland (did you know it snowed last Wednesday?)& big frosts last couple days Brrrr
