After our breakfast at the Black Bear diner, (pic last post), we headed off for Death Valley, first over more mountains then down onto the flats. Country here seems mainly to belong to China Lake Naval Weapons Centre, somewhere in the middle passed through Trona, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trona,_California. Kinda bleak.
Death Valley - can't even begin to imagine what it would have been like traveling though here on foot or even in wagon trains, but then can't imagine doing the outback that way either. Seemed to be driving for ever, but then the mountains are amazing.

Badwater Basin - Salt Flats - Death Valley 282ft, 86m below sea level, the white mark on the mountain is the SEA LEVEL sign.It was dark as we left the valley and then on there were lights twinkling all along the horizon, passed into Nevada and this was Pahrump, and this is a gambling State, couldn't find accommodation so had a buffet dinner in a casino and headed for Las Vegas.
Drove around LV for quite a while looking for a motel, my first thought was 'and I worry about turning of lights in my house!, blimey, wonder what the electric usage is and where does it come from, have just searched that and still not sure, huge usage anyway.
Booked into a Motel6, right on the strip, big sleep ready for tomorrow because decided to have the day here and stay again tomorrow night.
